[Bug 55426] file open menu does not display any file

That's what artsd supports "out of the box".

Of course as artsd cannot play mp3 files on your system for some reason 
(probably mpeglib plugin not working or not installed properly).

Unimportant.

Sure, as it uses artsd for playback and it's artsd and its plugins that do all 
the work.

Is there a MP3PLayObject.mcopclass in <YourKDEPrefix>/lib/mcop ?
and in that lib dir you should have these 'libarts_mpeglib*' files.

Other than that I don't really know what could be wrong.
