Try PCLOS. http://www.pclinuxos.com  It usually works out of the box with most 
hardware. The .iso download is for a live-cd, so you can check compatibility 
without installing. Currently, it comes with KDE 3.5.10, but you can install 
KDE 4.3 later and replace KDE 3. IMHO the best distro. I've used it for 
years. It's a rolling release, so there's constant updates to be installed by 
download using apt-get and Synaptic, although the package files are .rpm.
