Hi, Rex.  I suspect that there is more to this than just one problem.  In the 
case of yesterday's experience k3b apparently didn't even attempt to verify.  
You've probably read, by now, my reply earlier in this thread, stating that 
the type of disk appears relevant.  It's not that they were from a dodgy 
vendor, either.  Three different brands were used.

All three of those disks verify by md5sum.

Finally, twice during my experiments yesterday and today, k3b crashed at the 
verify point.

I have reported my experiences in Mandriva's bugzilla.
