I manually eliminated the udev/hotplug exchange in synaptic's pane and
installed the rest of the mandated packages without a hiccup.

NOW, the debian-experimental stuff will install so I will have a KDE4
installation!

Postings here said that KDE4 will coexist with KDE3.* which it must until I
decide to get rid of the KDE3. Problems may occur because of $PATH and
$LD_LIBRARY. The konstuct $KDEDIR stuff is in front--probably did this
because of older stuff still on /usr/bin and /usr/lib. $KDEDIR=/opt/kde3.5.

1. How do I fix this up to be able to choose kde3/kde4 from the kdm dropdown?
I would want to fallback to stuff I compiled for the kde3.5 that is not yet
compiled for kde4. I can presumably use --prefix=.../kde4... for future
local compiles.

2. Posting spoke of some migration from kde3 settings to kde4 settings which
are then stored in different place to allow coexistance. How does this work
(or do I just fire it up and see)?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!
