You come across as misunderstanding me; I do *not* recommend turning acpi off, 
but rather attempt to turn it back on if turned off, after testing that it 
actually works.

Just wanted to make it clear: Running with acpi=off is suboptimal, though it 
might be better than the alternative (usually, unable to boot). A clear 
indication that acpi=off is that the system does not poweroff.
