[kde-linux] Display problem on Mandriva Linux, startkde won't start

Before you do more guessing, I suggest that you try to see what the 
problem is.  The error message: "unable to open display" means that X 
(the Graphical display system) didn't start.  This should leave you at a 
text console where you need to login as your user account.

Then execute this command line:

   startx > my-x.log 2>&1

after X fails to start, read the log file:

   less my-x.log

and see what the problem is.
