There are numerous ways to do what you want depending on if you want control
over which virtual desk the app appears on and its frame and other options.
ksystraycmd --help-all and
kstart --help-all for some ideas.
But the simplest way by far is to simply right-click on your K-menu button and
choose menu editor. Then select any app in your menu tree hierarchy on the
left and on the right pane you will see where you can set/change its icon/
command/ description/ comment etc as well as further options like; start in a
terminal/ run as different user/ PLACE IN SYSTEM TRAY. This is all you
really want for firefox then just click its tray icon to disappear/appear it.
If you exit the app it will also leave the tray.
