[kde-linux] kmail broken

I've been doing some house cleaning and have removed KDE versions 3.1, 3.2, 3.3
and 3.4. Kmail is now broken. I can receive mail from both of my ISP's but I
cannot send mail from either. I get the typical warning message.
The warning below popped up even though I changed to my bellsouth.net identity.
Other problems include the fact that I cannot move messages from the outbox to
the drafts folder or the trash. I can delete from the outbox by highlighting it
and doing SHIFT+DEL
Sometimes kmail will crash while trying to send a message. backtrace at the
bottom. I have reinstalled kdepim without help. Can someone help me out here?

Sending failed:
Could not connect to host mail.ntplx.net.
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem
(e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
