It successfully reads /install-kde/testkde/kde-shared/share/config/kickerrc
and skips /home/local/.kde/share/config/kickerrc which is in line with what it 
should do.

It seems to think that it has to look for the buttons and stuff in the 
/testkde directory though. Can you look in your kickerrc file and see if it 
contains paths to /testkde? Changing those to /install-kde/testkde might be 
of help.
