OK, well, if you setup your fonts, in KDE Control Center's Appearance section, 
to Arial Unicode MS, then you shouldn't have problems. But, if you are still 
facing problems, and characters aren't displayed properly, that means ( as 
you guessed ) that KEdit isn't using Arail Unicode MS. 

I would suggest you take a look at KEdit's font, and see wether it is using 
Arial Unicode MS or not. To do so, you should 

1. Open Kedit
2. Click on Settings
3. Click on " Configure KEdit "
4. In the FONTS section, choose Arial Unicode MS as KEdit's font, and also 
select a size for it.

That should do the Job.
