The opinionated part: I prefer software that uses the formal addressing; if informal, I prefer to use lowercase "du" over "Du".

The wearing a translator's hat part: If it is decided to use the informal addressing, please put it in a separate catalogue (pot file). Now you work on the German translation and you know what's going on but in a year someone else will work on the German translation and might change it because "the rest of the file" uses formal forms. Also, translators of other languages will have a hard time translating it properly if they decide that Android apps use another form than desktop apps because they probably will not have a developer on board. :)
