Ok, 2 days does not sound like a lot.

But have you contacted those parties? Moving the floor below their feet 
without prior warning might not be a "polite" thing to do.

Regarding when it could go to master, i guess it could go there now, if you 
have libkipi maintainer agreement and if you correctly fix the soversioning, 
etc issues. But as said it'd be much more interesting if you contact a few of 
the authors of the programs using libkipi and get their input on both the API 
changes and how much time they are going to need to port their apps.
