Yes, if only for backward compatibility. Your suggestion to a 
Meta-language (consisting of commata and semicola) sounds nice to me. 
Maybe these characters should be defineble in options, to make it
- as compatible as possible
- as 'untechnical' as possible: Some might prefer |/&, some might not.

First thought was that this language split was thought for multi-lingual 
databases (like en-de-es) which is nice to have. At some points it 
could be nice being able to split them in bi-lingual files.
