instead of someone with an opinion based on how SVN is organized right now.

Well, there *is* libkdeedu, that could be split into a separate module, but I 
have doubts about the amount of shared functionality you get with the 
scientific apps (or are some of these apps Casper mentioned extragear and 
therefore not eager for a kdeedu dependency?)
