Does building kde 3.4 beta 1 require an installed kde?

By mistake I tried to configure base before building libs.
I noticed a line "kdemakewidgets compiled  yes" go by
when I ran the libs configure.

Another mistake I made was leaving my QTDIR, etc
initialized for Qt4 (beta 1).  Will that cause problems?

I think I now am getting close to being able to build kde.
