i was there for the whole messy thing =) i was even one of the initial 
skeptics, pondering whether email usage qualified as a different use case 
from file management, IIRC. testing here showed otherwise in the end. =)

i think these sorts of issues should be fewer and less frequent as we get 
additional, qualified usability people involved with the development cycle.
