I did that now, but have seen, that I have to also solve the general problem
with #79932 (as the number of icon text lines is always limited to 2 in the
calculation for the desktop grid).

Thinking about the general problem, I would implement the following:

The main thing which the user definitely has to be able to configure, is the
amount of text he wants to see (this can not be calculated).
With the mentioned patch, he can already define how man lines he wants to see.
What he currently can not do, is to define the maximum width used for one
item.

I think everything else can be calculated on the basis of the already known
pieces, like icon size, font size, etc.

So I would remove the current config setting "DesktopGridSpacing", which I
think one can nowhere define (except in the file) and replace it with
"TextWidth" (according to the "TextHeight" which already exists).
I would then integrate this setting in the advanced background dialog, where I
put the number of lines (probably with a default of 60 or so.)

Do you think that's ok ?

Some operating systems are called 'user friendly',
             Linux however is 'expert friendly'.
