my real concern is the arrangement of the "tooltips" so the arrows don't
cross. the simplest strategy would be simply in a circle, not taking the
distance from the center into account. but that will result in tearing
widgets belonging together apart. so one has to take visual grouping
widgets in the hierarchy into account.
