Of course... in the long run.
(btw there were discussions on the xdg-list about this. But the problem
KDE-wise is the lack of interested developers I think).
I prefer the step by step approach.
Of course every time we want to standardize something it creates the need for
standardizing even more (just like the .desktop standard created the need
for the icon theme standard). But we can't do it all at once, so finding intermediate
progressive solutions is much more practical.
Although with the current interest RedHat has into standardizing the desktops,
it might be that they want to contribute the long-awaited kio_trash ;-)
