I got a report from Benoit Lachance of his success to run GCompris on the Raspberry PI. He posted a video and some tutorials explaining how he did:

To overcome performance issues you must overclock your Rasperry PI this way:

medium  overclock:

pi at raspberrypi ~ $ vcgencmd get_config int
arm_freq=900
core_freq=250
sdram_freq=450
over_voltage=2

pi at raspberrypi ~ $ uname -a
