OK, try on your mandrake:
rpm -qa | grep locale

you will see something like 
locale-xx-....

where xx is the actual locales installed on your system.
To be abble gcompris to force sweden locale you must have
locale-sw

To see what's going on, run gcompris in a terminal and change the locale
in the gcompris config menu. After ok, you should see something like:
gcompris_set_locale requested fr_FR got fr_FR
If there is got NULL, it means the requested locale is not installed on
the user system.

For the novergian, I believe the iso code is no and if so nobody never
started a translation.

Do you know how to proceed ?
