I have. It also does work with Knoppix!
(And yes I mean the oringinal 3.6 ! )
So the following experiment should work: (it did for me)
- - Bootup two machines with Knoppix
- - Start the nxserver on the first one
- - Start the nxclient on the second one (not fullscreen!)
- - Click on the "X" to close the window.
- - Click on Suspend in the popped up dialog box
- - Start the nxclient again
- - Reconnect to the session
Thats it.

With what error?
There is a known issue using snapshot 4 client to connect to a 5/6 snapshot.

You can easier do:
nxserver --terminate :<display>
do a:
nxserver --list
to list all sessions.
