How to change Reference Image for isolated found duplicates

Hi,
I am going through my photo collection with DigiKam to identify and remove duplicates. I am using 8.6.0 on MacOS 14.7.5.
I selected “Prefer selected Album as reference” but some of the duplicates are in the same album. When this happens, digiKam does not always select the reference image I would prefer to keep (for my purposes, I want to keep the image with a caption or keywords over the one without those).

The “Remove Duplicates” button is very handy, but it deletes all duplicates (non-reference images) in the whole set of duplicates found, not the selected duplicates as the documentation seems to say ("Remove Duplicates allows you to delete all duplicate images of the current selected item from the Duplicates list.”—https://docs.digikam.org/en/left_sidebar/similarity_view.html). In my first batch of found duplicates I verified the reference images were correct, selected item from the left sidebar and clicked “Remove Duplicates.” The action removed the duplicates from all of the items in the left sidebar.

Is there a way to change the reference image in a given set of duplicates so that I can use “Remove Duplicates” for faster batch processing?

Thanks,
Carol
