I suppose this is the doc you're referring to:

This doc describes how to do something in a /very old/ macOS version.
System Settings/Security and Privacy no longer looks like that and there
seems to be no way on that section to authorize digiKam.
Please see a screenshot of the Security section from current macOS
Sequoia below:
I found a way to allow DK to access network volumes under Files and
Folders. This also looks very different than in the doc. See below. You
might want to update the documentation.
Additionally: There is no apparent link to these absolutely mandatory
steps on the Downloads page. I think we should be kind to potential new
users and put in a link or text explaining this directly on the Download
page. Otherwise, the user experience of a first time user is to download
an app that "doesn't work".
