HELP: After update 8.3--> 8.4 Digikam workspace is entirely white

My system is Win 11 Pro with much more than the minimum operating requirements.
In all the years I have used and updated digiKam, I have never had this experience.


  1.  I used the internal check for updates and used it to download 8.4.
  2.  I started the download and got an error message.
  3.  After many retry attempts. I closed that window and went directly to downloads.
  4.  I started the update, and prepared to uninstall.
  5.  digiKam was closed and I got this:
  6.  After many retry attempts, I selected Ignore[DK appears running, please close]
  7.  Uninstall seemed to have worked, and Install started with this:[Digikam Install DK appears running]
  8.  After many retry attempts, I selected Ignore.
  9.  When digiKam restarted, I got this: [Failed Start Digikam]
  10. Then I rebooted and reinstalled, doing essentially all the steps above with much the same results.
  11. I did this a couple of times at least.
  12. Then I went to the download.kde.org site for digiKam-8.4-Qt6-Win64.exe and replace the initial digiKam-8.4.0-Qt5-Win64.exe with another one.
  13. This one opened OK.

I have never had to struggle so much to do an digiKam update in any of the previous ones.
I am baffled by the process, and pleased to have then new system up and running.
