[digiKam-users] high-level photo organization

Digikam is not my first photo organization app, but hopefully the last...
But just in case, I've kept my old school organization structure on disk.

First, I've got an incoming folder on my desktop where I move everything
off my camera and phone. I face tag, edit, etc. in incoming, then move out
to long term storage.

Long term storage is broken into "mine" and "others" at top level. Others
being photos saved from other people, scans of old photos I didn't shoot,
etc

Beneath both of those I have folders for years.

Within each year, I have flat folders named as
yyyy-mm-dd-description(sortable)

I found having subdirs for mm and dd was too much. Maybe if I took more
photos I'd find it useful.

Oh and I use like 2022-10-xx-misc as catch all for random cellphone pics
in that month which don't arise from a shoot or event. Otherwise
description is the event name.

I've found this to be a good workflow. All photos go into digikam via the
incoming folder and then I move the photos from within the app... never via
the file system. Gives me one place to dump everything after vacation, for
example... And then over coffee on Saturday morning I'll go in and process
the photos.

So like:

Desktop
    Incoming
Pictures
    Mine
        2022
            2022-10-17-BirthdayParty
            2022-10-xx-Misc
            Etc
    Others
         2022
          Etc.
