1. One doesn't contradict Gilles, he's one of the main dev...

My previous desktop fried (literally) including destroying the
partition tables of the driveS.
I bought a Lenovo Ideapad laptop amd ryzen 4700 with amdgpu/renoir
that was on a very good sale.
I have an external USB toaster with a 3Tb drive that I plug in one of
the usb. It has all the images (50,000) with the various digikam
databases.
The speed is fairly good. I have not noticed "bog downs", but I have not
done any face recognition or similarity. I use DK only as a DAM and use
ART or Rawtherapee or Darktable to process the images.
