[digiKam-users] Comments in metadata

Hi, I hope it's ok that I post this here as well as in the kde forum.
The following happened:
I typed comments for pictures of an album in an xls-file.
Using ' sqlite3' I inserted those comments into my 'digikam4.db'.
Opening 'digikam'(Version 7.1.0) I saw those imported comments under the
thumbnails, however not in the 'caption' section.
I selected all the pictures in that album and clicked on '/Item/Reread Metadata From
File'.
Now all the comments appeared also in the caption-section.
The same happened for a selected picture when I clicked on '/Item/Edit Metadata'
and chose the XMP-tab, concluding with apply.
Can anyone explain to me, please, what happens.
And is there a way to shortcut this procedure so the comments go straight to the
captions?
Are metadata by default stored as exif data?
Thanks for all advice!
