[digiKam-users] XMP sidecar settings

Hi Maik,

Selecting "write to XMP sidecar for read-only item only" works. Metadata is written directly to jpegs and XMP files are created for raw (rw2) files. However, if a jpeg is selected and "Item>Reread Metadata from file" applied, the jpeg will then display the metadata from the XMP file for the raw file. It only displays it in the preview pane (internal database?) but does not update (write out to) the jpeg.

Should this happen? If I change the jpeg metadata in another app and wish to update digikam’s database I would want to update with the jpeg metadata not the metadata for the raw file. Or, if a jpeg (or several) is left selected and scrolled out of view of the preview pane I would not want it (them) updated with a raw file's metadata. I hope I'm explaining this correctly. Can this be fixed? Thanks.

Hi Maik,
Thanks for the tip. I've been using 6.4 to curate a large collection of digitized slides and prints. It has been/is working perfectly for that task. I simply haven't thought about updating. That said I also appreciate the development and fixes of new versions. Thanks for the reminder/nudge. Will install 7.2 asap.

Hi Alan,

my first question is, why are you still on digiKam-6.4.0? We are now about to
release digiKam-7.2.0 (https://files.kde.org/digikam/). Windows support in
particular has also been significantly improved in the 7.x.x versions.

To your question: Simply select in the metadata settings for sidecar that you
only have sidecar files for items that can only be read. Read only does not
only mean files that are write-protected, but also RAW files.
