Won't recognize external hard drive

Hi, I'm new to digiKam and cannot find the following information:

I edit all my photos on a MacBook Pro and I am using the most current
update of OSX (version 10.13.3).

I installed digiKam with no problem, however, when I try to search for my
external hard drive digiKam cannot find it.

I have a collection of over 150,000 photos (RAW and jpg) on a 4TB HD.

Any help is appreciated.
