Is thunderbird and gmail a good option to use the digikam mailing list ?

Let's replace 'better' with 'different', OK?

Main differences:

Mail comes to you - you go to a forum.

Mail gets handled/viewed by your chosen client, set up as you see fit -
forum is mostly set up as someone else wants it to be.

Mail can be locally on your own machine, searches can be done in
fractions of seconds, using regex or whatever - forum searches can be a
pain, and only with the tools the sysadmins see as practical.

Mail can be available offline as long as you see fit - without internet
connection there's no forum.

Mail is quite manageable up to a certain volume - after which you either
prefer to split topics up to multiple mailing-lists OR you'd prefer
working on a forum.

Digikam is not such a high-volume list ;-)

Just thoughts,
