[Digikam-users] Export Pictures and Database to a different PC

It is possible to move the photos and database to another PC.

Part of the difficulty lies in the, IMHO, poor design decision to write
the path to the collection into the database. This may include a GUID of
the HDD on which it originally resided. So even if you recreate the path
including the drive letter on the new PC you may still have problems
unless you manually edit the database entry involved.

You can indeed have the photos on a netshare as a remote collection. The
situation with the database is more complicated however. If you use
sqlite then the database must be on a local drive for the PC accessing
it ie no network at all. If you use MySQL then you can have a remote PC
running the db as a server. However this implementation is not yet bug
free so use at your own risk.
