Hello Vern,
I've been faced with the same problem. The cause seems to be a conflict
between digiKam theme colours and those of your window manager.
Yeah, it's frustrating. I prefer the dark digiKam themes too. However, I
was able to address the problem somewhat it by fiddling with Qt4
