[Digikam-users] Re: Renaming photo files

I have just gone through a major renaming process.

Some of my older 'tif' files were giving me problems and they needed to
become 'tiff' and my older naming convention had become simply too unwieldy
(and unnecessary).

Major tif/tiff changeover work was done under the system but the basic name
changes were accomplished through DK.

When all was completed I appeared to have 'lost' a large number of files
according to DK. A DK search showed the files but they simply had
disappeared from the Albums. A tedious rebuild of thumbs etc. did not help.

At this point I started to look at my folder naming conventions and found
many very long paths interspersed with spaces. I elected to try cutting
short (hacking) at paths and eliminating all spaces. Voila! All problems
simply went away.

This may not help others but it was instructive for me at any rate.
