I have the same problem for a while now (with beta releases and now with
1.0)
My setup: openSUSE 11.2 with digikam-1.0.0-9.1.i586 from backports.
All other system updates are installed.

My entire collection is on NFS3 mounted dive. The collection is created
as "Collections on Network Shares" in digiKam.
The database is stored on local filesystem.

As a par of the collection I have a temp folder where I add/delete
photos using various scripts and/or manually.
Often I have to re-start digitam to see the updated pictures in this
folder as F5 does not seem to work most of the times (it does work
sometime however the behaviour seems to be random).
