This is not a bug - it's a feature. ;-)

I have the same camera and also found it annoying at first. But if you
look at the instructions, you will see that only in P2P mode it is
supposed to be possible to delete pictures off the camera from a PC,
and according to the manual this only works with Windows Vista. You
could switch to Vista, but with that system's bad reputation I think
it is less of a hassle to use the camera's build-in delete functions or
a card reader...
