the first trick is to define the possible domain of %X%'s so that we can then 
design a way to make those connections. e.g. with your example of inserting a 
CD, that happens now through the media:/ support in kde (with the backing of 
either hotplug or hal)

svg's bring their own set of challenges of course, such as outlines getting 
too thick as you scale up. we will be using svg in plasma quite a bit, but 
that has more to do with the fact that qt 4.1 is coming with a nice svg 
engine that can do n-path animation than anything else. =)
