Yes, the last.fm fingerprinting assigns a confidence value to every
artist/track pair that fingerprint has been scrobbled with before.
For most songs, there are quite a few, probably around 30.  Most of
the time one pair has a high confidence and the others very low, but
for some of them there could be ambiguity as to which tags are
actually correct.  One thing I noticed is with some Japanese songs I
had, the highest confidence pair was the romanization of the artist
and track names, but I like to keep these songs tagged with the
Japanese characters.
