Am I right in saying that the ipod media device supports the creation of
the ipod compatible database (sorry I don't own a 'pod so don't really
know how it all works!). If so then this patch does not stop the
generation of the 'pod's database when transferring files.

To be fair tho', I think it should still be generated, but only for
natively supported files. The reason being is that the Rockbox
bootloader will allow you to boot into the original ipod firmware too,
and to keep this useful it will still need it's own database etc. etc.

Hope I'm not rambling!

To generate a rockbox compatible database it makes most sense to keep a
perl script in your .rockbox folder and run it when you disconnect (or
more accurately, just before you disconnect!!!). I originally asked for
direct support in my first mail, but then realised that I could just
configure the device to run this script when I disconnect.

I guess it would be nice to have amarok do this automatically if it
detects a .rockbox folder on the media device.

I guess tho' I question if you should be using the ipod media device in
Amarok if it has the rockbox firmware on it? Perhaps just Generic Media
device would be better? (after all this is kinda what Rockbox turns it
into).

You could argue that Amarok is making the selection automatically, but
on the flip side if you're skilled enough to install a new boot loader
and risk creating an expensive white iBrick, you're probably canny
enough to configure Amarok manually too :)

Just some ramblings from a mind marred by too many server crashes over
the last few days :(
