Hi Brenda!

My original post was sent to "
libmtp-discuss at lists.sourceforge.net" too. There Linus Walleij (one of the
libmtp developers) answered. At that time I had some more testing and replied
to his post.

For whatever reason, the post is not in the libmtp archives so far. So I do
here a full qouting of my response:

Hi Linus!

Thank you for your response.

No, I have not recompiled Amarok. But on another computer I have Debian
testing running. NOTE: I have no speaker system there ( -> no sound).

At that computer is a more recent version of Amarok (version 1.4.7 if I
remember well). That newer version has an entry for MTP devices (which Amarok
version 1.4.4 does not have).

It still doesn't work as with an IPod but at least I can manually say Amarok
that there is an MTP device and then it ssems that Amarok can use it. At
least was able to copy the Amarok Welcome mp3 on my Samsung Media Player.

So I tried to get the same Debian package (from Debian testing) running on my
Debian stable. But finally it turned out to be to much work.

Maybe I will switch this PC (= my home PC) to Debian Lenny (= Debian testing)
within the near future. Then I can say more about this topic as I would have
a newer version of Amarok. :-)

Of course I will report success here as soon as I have it. So far I do not
have the success (probably because of the use of a to old version of Amarok).

BTW: Thanks for coding this libary.

Thanks for your howto.

There are two things to note:

1.) Changing "/etc/udev/rules.d/libmtp7.rules" is not necessary. In fact, if
one changes the udev rule, he/she can only use one Samsung YP-U3J at once.

OK, in fact I do not know wether it would be possible to use more than one
Samsung YP-U3J at once, but with the changed udev rule you can get only one
device note created by udev.

2.) You should give the exact version of libmtp and amarok you have used.
Because as I have noted, Amarok version 1.4.4 does not support MTP devices.
