I'm with Aaron here, for the same reasons. The shell has to stay out of the 
way, the application is in focus, and swiping in from the side is not 
intuitive enough for justify that.

Imagine reading a book, swiping to the next page, and every second time you 
don't pay enough attention the activity switcher comes up instead of the next 
page. Or viewing images, or...
