I have no clue.
And no expertise on how the gtk style actually gets loaded.
I've read about issues with ubuntu, because of guilty start-kde scripts. 
I've seen people having problems because the styles are not looked for in the
right path, etc. 
Can be anything.

Question: how did you update to kde4.6, and what is your distro.
