I am experiencing something similar. I don't have screen saver enabled (start
automatically is off). However, I am using 'switch user' functionality quite a
lot, changing between two always logged in users. Every time I do user switch,
there is the kscreenlocker waiting for user to type password. I guess in this
step the kblankscrn.kss is used to set background blank.
After a while of user switches, there are a lot of those kblankscrn.kss
instances which are not using CPU but of course eat some memory. I have also
noticed that the user switching is getting slower the more I do it. Maybe those
extra processes are affecting here.
I am running KDE 4.4 RC2 on Kubuntu.
