Maybe it's the way Acer combines the different hardware?

I use Kde4 every day - I'm not exactly a Gnome-fan ;o) and I have learned to
live with the memory consumption by shutting down plasma-desktop and kded4
after a while and restart plasma-desktop (the Alt+F2 program starter)

This is optimal but works for me - hope you can use it ;o)
