I have found that my screen flickers while loading KDE. This happens sometimes
but not all the time, and with both GDM and KDM.
The splash window will disappear and the background image will elongate
vertically, so that the circles become oval. This happens several times during
most of the stages of startup, in between which the icons will fade in as
normal. After startup, the flickering continues, with the screen background
repeatedly changing from colour to B&W and back again, and the bottom Plasma
panel disappearing. My desktop was un-usable and my only way out was
Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.
This happened several times yesterday, but the day before, the flickering
happened but not the corrupted desktop; today, KDE loaded without incident.
I am using the KDE 4.2.4 update packages supplied through Ubuntu's Launchpad -
