What you are I think discovering is that the code is not as neat as it could
be :)

Your research and discussion makes sense, although I havn't looked at
the code in question recently.

If you supply a patch and show an example of it makeing a difference
then we'll commit it, probably once Oliver's looked at it since he's
been working on that code more recently.

CVS commits will have a date and author on them, a reason for change
is sometimes lacking which it shouldn't be.
