Heh, we're gong to skip the gcc-3.1/3.1.1-based release and make a gcc-3.2 one
:-) (gcc-3.2 is to be released sometime next week)

I don't know how gcc 3.x lives side by side with gcc 2.x on debian (I have a
fully gcc-3.1-based system, no gcc2 anywhere). Anyway if gcc3 lives in
/usr/bin/gcc3 export PATH=/usr/bin/gcc3:$PATH and that should be enough. If
they both live in /usr/bin under different names or something export
CXX=CC="path to gcc3".

However gcc 3.0 was a very buggy release. I know because we tried to make a
Gentoo release based on it back before 3.1.x and gave up. I very much
recommend you use 3.1.x if at all apt-getable or you might encounter some
gcc-related problem instead of a uml-related one.
