I wish I had a better answer right now, but Tellico doesn't do much in
that regard. There are a couple of related wishlist bugs, for having a
met-entry of sorts (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255937) and
for linking between entries
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=495726) that would help. but I
haven't implemented them yet.

Right, no way to really do that. The only small bit of functionality
that Tellico offers is that if the table field is formatted as a name,
then those names are included in the "People" grouping. That's how the
video collection manages the Cast field, for example. So you could
have a "Short Stories" field with 3 columns, author/title/date. It
would take some work to create a report that pulls out the story
titles across all books, sorted by author.
I'll see if I can take a whack at the report building, or another look
at those wishlist items. Maybe there's some progress to be made there.
I haven't thought through it in a little while.
