Taglib Extension Tutorial?

Hi.

I'd like to add support for a few file formats to taglib. This would be read-only support for s3m, 
it and xm files. Is there a tutorial for how to write a taglib extension (similar to taglib-extras)? 
What is the minimal work to do in order to add read-only support for a new file format? Is there 
some demo code somewhere? And how would you setup/install it so that e.g. amarok can use it (without 
changing the taglib or amarok installation)? Is this even possible?
