MusicBrainz does something different. It decodes the file to get the
uncompressed audio data. This necessary, because the data is then used
to calculate an accoustic fingerprint. From what I understand, Patrick
and Anothony just want a checksum of the compressed data. Decoding the
audio would be unnecessarily expensive.
